Friggatriskaidekaphobia ...

... means fear of Friday 13th, according to Wikipedia.  Who knew?  Anyway, I was at Bell's Parade in Latrobe yesterday, and for the first time in the 15 years I've lived up here, I saw at least 2 platypuses playing around in the river.  The water was higher than I've seen it for some time, so maybe they were making the most of it.  And they were smaller than I thought they would be, and not afraid of people:

  3. how wonderful that you actually saw them and that they hung around long enough for you to photograph...wonderful to see that our rivers are not polluted and that they still have these amazing cretures which are indigenous to
Australia.....how lucky you were to actually see them with your naked eye...

  4. Oh they are just so lovely! We had a couple living very near where we were camping once and it was always really exciting to see them swimming about in their water hole:)
