I made this jar of jam the other day, using loganberries from our back garden. It's tangy and delicious, but it's spoilt me for supermarket jam, which is gelatinous and tastes like sugar. There are so many reasons to grow our own food.
I am all for it...been doing for over 40 years now...supply the kids and grand kids now....(silly me ..should be making them make their own..only they suck me in by saying it never tastes the same as yours Mum!!!) i love the whole process..the picking, the preparation and the smell of it cooking...right throught to the jars all lined up setting on the bench...YES so much better for you too.....
Have to agree to we grow most of our own fruit and veg and store for most of the year. Found my puppy dont pick her up till after Christmas though she is a Maltese poodle cross does that make her a maltippodle LOL any ideas of good names for small girlie dogs??
That jam looks amazing lulu! I get my fix of home-made jam from a shelf in our little local post office! A local lady supplies bits and pieces, and my favourite is her 3 fruit marmalade, which has big luscious pieces in it! Sublime! I agree, supermarket jam is no jam at all really!
Yum, yum, yum! Nothing is as good as homemade jam! The only jam-worthy fruit we have growing are apricots and the tree is absolutely loaded with green fruit. Can't wait. Even though boiling it means summer days over a hot stove, lol!
Esmerelda lived with us for a couple of months, then one night she ripped through a window screen, and disappeared into the night, never to be seen again.
My cousin found Puss as a kitten, stuck in the wall cavity of her shed at Gunns Plains. She convinced me to keep her. She wasn't an affectionate cat when she came here, but became more so as time went on.
"Thousands - millions and billions - of animals are killed for food. That is very sad. We human beings can live without meat, especially in our modern world. We have a great variety of vegetables and other supplementary food, so we have the capacity and responsibility to save billions of lives." - His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
